Today, March 18th, is Gideon Day aka Public Defense Day. We honor the story of Clarence Earl Gideon. He fought for, and won, his right to have a lawyer appointed to defend him. At his later trial, he was acquitted. #GideonDay

Today, we joined lawyers, judges, and advocates at the Texas Leg to push for more indigent defense funding. Texas is 46th in the nation in state funding. In many places, people do not get lawyers for months. There shouldn't be justice by geography. #Gideonday #fundpublicdefense
Today is the 62nd anniversary of Gideon v. Wainwright guaranteeing the right-to-counsel. That right is elusive in many places. Lawyers have high caseloads and are underfunded. Its a crisis, and legislators continue criminalizing more actions and people. Fund public defense. #Gideonday
