So I'm just hearing about the Genesis Craig Schertz #Gigaleak situation. Was anybody able to grab this set? I'd really like to hear some of the material from '74 and '80-'82.

"With regards to Pogo DS, it turns out the there is really only a single issue. The Pogo DS product is very simple and the only Internet component is a "points upload" feature. Essentially, if you already have a Pogo (web) account, then there is a mode in Pogo DS where you can tell it to upload your earned points to your web account. To do this, you must enter you EA Pogo Account Name and Password. This data is also stored on the DS so you don't need to enter it again. Account setup must take place via the web on a PC. The DS can use an existing Pogo account but cannot create one. The uploaded data just impacts your web account. There are no friends lists or anything else. So I cannot imagine anyone would be concerned about the user experience (just not enough online to worry about).
The key is that Pogo DS uses the socket library plus DWC (we authenticate via DWC and use the socket library for our communication). You were going to investigate whether there might be any license issues around this approach. Given that Pogo DS is on a tight schedule, we need to resolve this quickly. I really don't think the user experience is anything NCL would find objectionable. The game is working so we just need approval for using the socket library to make it happen.

2.1 Free text
This game has a unique level of player customization in that all players have a role in building the world by
creating a pet or pets that travel in it. Part of this creation involves a small number of free text fields. 

PC free text entries will be filtered on receipt by the DS server, and any pets that do not have their fields pass
the filter will simply not be allowed into the DS portion of the community. This will in effect block these PC players from any interactions with DS players.
[NOA comment 2.1 How do the text field filters in effect block PC players from interacting with DS players? Could PC
players, once they know that they're being passed thru a filter, remove profanity, numbers, +10 characters etc. and be
able to pass the filters to communicate with DS players?]

make a kid friendly "clean" account with text fields that were considered safe to use in the DS game. Go Pets will be
needing to do this anyway in their game in order to accommodate the direction of the PC game to be more kid

2.2 Unique Owner Names
The Owner Name will need to be unique for the purposes of the online server. When the DS player goes on wifi
for the first time their Owner Name will be tested to see if it is unique. If it is not, a random set of numbers will be
appended to automatically create a unique Owner Name for that owner.

JohnBrown has 9 chars, with 10 possible unique John Brown (0-9).]
[Publisher Answer To clarify, there are 10 alpha characters the player can use for their chosen name, and 5 digits the
system uses for a number to ensure a unique name. So the total length is 15 char, of which only 10 are settable by the
player.]

Making games fully compliant with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was hard, as the developers of Pogo Island and GoPets: Vacation Island learned.
Setting things up to allow external accounts to connect to the DS required a bit of back and forth with Nintendo.
