Multi-modal transport ftw 🚶🚊🚋🚂🚍🚲🚶

So, anyone know the plans for Ceannt Station? What's the Galwegian version of OV-fiets?
Some of the original #Gluas campaigners in Galway have been calling for Light Rail over the past 30 years or more.
When traffic delays drivers, the official solution is "moar roads".
When congestion delays public transport, often the same remedy is proposed.

#Galway light-rail feasibility study was completed in 2024. This should lead to next phase:
Option selection & route alignment (NTA + relevant bodies)
e.g Knocknacarra → City Centre →Roscam →Parkmore
Full economic appraisal
Environmental Impact Assessment
Statutory approval

The theory explained in this video captures why the #GalwayRingRoad won´t solve its traffic problem. Galwegians deserve #Gluas, more bus frequency & priority, Park&Ride, and better roads for both drivers & pedestrians alike. #galwaycity #cityofculture #galwayireland #notjustdublin #salthill #galway
"When I first heard of #Gluas a few years ago, I believed light rail was only feasible for a city the size of Dublin, and possibly Cork.
Not for Galway. Too small. Streets too narrow. Not enough bridges.
I’ve since been disabused of that misconception– totally."

No, we're not saying to put trams in the parks, although they should serve parks, pitches, schools, hospitals, beaches, universities ...
We want the conversation to #ChangeOurStreets in Galway. #GLUAS
Probably same in Galway ... needed = (A) the #GLUAS and (B) #OranmoretoGalwayGREENWAY www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
From the print edition of the news report above: Chairperson of the #Gluas campaign, Brendan Holland, said that Light Rail would be "catering for the 65% of people who want to traverse the city, not the 3% who want to avoid the city."
In fact bypassable traffic is 1% of total peak hour trips.
Think about frequent automated light rail emanating from Ceannt in each direction.
Most people would probably cycle alongside in the practical, inviting, artistic, monitored, policed and safe emergency access route but it would pay for itself in quality of life for residents and visitors. #GLUAS
Inspiration for GalwayCoCo and GalwayCityCo
- join the future: a) deliver in 2027 #OranmoretoGalwayGREENWAY b) deliver #GLUAS & electric buses in 2030 c) drop RING ROAD Nonsense d) #PROTECTBIODIVERSIY

Galway is one of the most congested cities in 🇪🇺 and a light rail system would transform the city!!
