I read somewhere that Tallulah Bankhead read for the mother's role and was so good she made the cameraman cry.
But they didn't cast her due to her reputation as a junkie and a drunk. Too early for the RDJ treatment I guess. #GoldenTimeline #WhatCouldHaveBeen
