Over the past few weeks, we have shared some of the animals in St Leonard’s: sheep, mice, winged creatures, a leopard - part of @churchofengland.org's celebration of all creatures #GreatAndSmall.
We look forward to welcoming animals to church on 5th October for our Pet Service! 🐾

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾
We have welcomed Callie, Dina, Dinos and Dash to St Leonard’s, and we’re hoping Bonnie and Sandy will join them (and us!) for our Pet Service on Sunday 5th October at 3:00pm. It will be pawsome! 🐶

Did you know there’s a leopard in St Leonard’s? 🐆 The Goode family crest on the Sale/Goode memorial shows a silver leopard, spotted black, on a golden coronet. The tablet tells the story of Benjamin Sale, a King's Musician, who lived in Lampton with his wife Elizabeth. #GreatAndSmall

Have you ever brought your pet to church?

Furry friends with wet noses joined a Cornish congregation earlier this summer after being invited to a special pet service in Lansallos Church's garden.

Let’s celebrate all animals #GreatAndSmall

(Thanks to John, Lansallos PCC, for pic).

At the centre of our reredos is a cross with panels of the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments. Beside it are four winged creatures from Ezekiel and Revelation, later seen as symbols of the Gospel writers: Matthew (man), Mark (lion), Luke (ox), and John (eagle). #GreatAndSmall

This window, in the Chapel of Remembrance, is in memory of those who died during the South African War (1899-1902). It commemorates the sieges at Kimberley, Ladysmith and Mafeking. Made by RG Newberry in 1902, it represents St Andrew, St George and St Patrick. #greatandsmall

Happy #InternationalCatDay! 🐱

Did you know that Exeter Cathedral has a cat flap that is over 400 years old? A bishop paid for it to be cut for his cat, which was then paid a weekly penny to hunt the mice attracted to the Astronomical Clock's grease.

Earlier we posted a picture of Nutty, the Squirrel Glove Puppet.
He was inspired by the carvings on the columns at St Mary's Rufford.

Our manuscripts are overflowing with delightful animal antics.
In case a bear playing the bagpipes wasn’t quite enough, this 15th-century Psalter also features an owl and a peacock in the margins.

The Mummery Window, “The Adoration of the Shepherds,” was installed in 1899 in memory of Mary Lily Mummery (1849–1897). Made by Charles Kempe, it bears his wheatsheaf symbol. Restored after war damage, it is a window of quiet beauty, love, and loss. #GreatAndSmall

The Resurrection Window, at the west end of our church, is dedicated to Edward Westbrook (landowner, brickmaker and Churchwarden) who died in 1864 while 'in office'. Installed in 1867, it was designed and funded by his widow Mary: a lasting symbol of love, faith and resurrection. #GreatAndSmall
