What I really wanted were two things:
- Twitter without the twit (pictured)
- Fedi but with text search so I don't have to play #GuessTheHashtag all the time

Mastodon added text search fairly late. The instance admin has to opt in (often an upcharge), and each poster has to opt in before posting.

#GuessTheHashtag on Mastodon exists because they claim full-text search makes it easier for a #ReplyGuy with a harassment habit to find posts by people in marginalized groups, particularly LGBTQ people. It makes me end up feeling I'm the only person in the #fediverse who ever mentions some topics.

I wish I knew how to get my posts found on the fediverse. Mastodon deliberately poorly supports text search (to protect members of marginalized groups from harassers), and I've never really had much success at playing #GuessTheHashtag.

The biggest flaw that I've seen in Mastodon is post discovery. By default, a user's posts are marked as not indexable for full-text search to "protect marginalized groups." To find posts or get found, you have to play #GuessTheHashtag, and I've rarely succeeded at that.
