The crater has the shape of an eye with an eyelid and looks very impressive. It is reminiscent of a dark animal at night. Info: Model calculations show that the magma tunnel formed on March 2, 2024 was about 3 km long and extended from Stóra-Scógfell to Hagafell. The magma in the tunnel lies at a depth of 1.2 km, is shallowest there and reaches a depth of around 3.9 km. The amount of magma is significantly less than in previous events.
