110 years ago today, German soldiers walked in to and captured the ‘jewel in France’s defensive crown’, Fort Douaumont.
Largely, it was a major propaganda coup for the Germans, but would cost an awful lot of French blood to try and recapture it over the next 8 mos.

An innocuous looking agricultural field in north-west Norfolk, where once stood RAF Sedgeford.
It began life in 1915 as a #RNAS training station and night landing ground for Great Yarmouth, before the #RFC took it over for home defence use in 1916.

Awarded for his heroic actions on 1st July 1916, whilst commanding a company of 10th Yorks.
He’d previously seen service with 9th Pembroke Yeomanry during the 2nd Boer War.
