Finding out that the costume designer for Season 3 of #TheNewsreader, Ms #GypsyTaylor, was one of the illustrators for one of my favourite childhood book series was the sweetest discovery today!
I adored the Pearlie series, and I was personally dressed by Gypsy many years later! 💖🌟
Actors were employed to be stand ins for #BertNewton, #BryanBrown and other stars like comedy character #NormanGunston, and all our #TheNewsreader characters had their Logies finery put together by #GypsyTaylor and #JohnLogue, and their costuming, hair and makeup teams.
I even got to see #KayWalters’ Logies dress in person on my set visit day, and it’s just as cool in real life.
#GypsyTaylor pulled it out for Mum and I, and we gasped at how pretty and petite it was!

#GypsyTaylor wanted Kay’s dress to reflect the cusp of the early 1990s looks that stars were wearing at the time; almost futuristic. The gold lamé drop waist skirt shines, as do the tassels on the front of the bodice.
It’s creative and bold, just like Kay.

In 1989, #Vogue produced patterns by designer #IsseyMiyake, and one of these was selected as a base for Evelyn’s dress.

It was long sleeved and had a sweet gathering at the shoulder; a nod to Noelene’s day to day fashion choices.

Several sketches were done before selecting the final design, and Gypsy knew that Helen’s dress would be made of velvet, silk and tulle.
