I'm a dad bereaved by student suicide and am part of @tlearnn.bsky.social which has recently joined these shiny skies. As an academic and through my lived experience, I'm part of #HEMHIT, the UK gov's Higher education Mental Health Implementation Taskforce, which I'll mainly talk about through LEARN
We're new to the Blue & want to connect with people/organisations working to prevent future deaths by suicide in #HigherEducation, the #NHS and the #workplace. We currently have members on the UK government's HE mental health taskforce #HEMHIT & shaping the #BSI's BS 30480 Suicide Awareness standard
As part of the UK gov's #HEMHIT taskforce, I know that by improving the MH experience of all in HE we will reduce student suicide significantly. I also know that what gets measured gets done and in HE, this means regulation/legislation. This is where #UKgov is falling short.
Pleased to see Jacqui Smith and mental health campaigner Alastair Campbell on the #BBCQT panel this week. On the eve of the release of the second #HEMHIT taskforce report into supporting student mental health, it would be good to know their thoughts on why #HE still has no #dutyofcare for students.
