There are no doubt dozens of individuals in the London metro area alone that are experts in the tensions between right-wing reactionaries and higher education both within the UK and outside. That @timeshighered.bsky.social gives free publicity to #HEPI slop is just F🤬ing pathetic.
So while having university posts administrative, neither individual seems to be notable at all in area of #UKHE policy other than through the slop funnel of #HEPI.
I feel like its important to understand who runs #HEPI, the #Tory #UKHE slop engine, that #TimesHE gave a free advertisement to yesterday.

TBC clear, this entire list has been what @ucu.org.uk union members & their elected leadership have been saying FOR YEARS now. But British media institutions invariably turn to a #RussellGroup VC or some Tory apparatchik ensconced in a "Think Tank" (ala #HEPI) for comment.
While not said so openly by the #Tory minions at #HEPI, I feel like conservative Higher Education policy in the UK since (at least) 2010 is very much driven by the same animus. @ucu.org.uk @ucucommons.org

The growing economic footprint of international students The economic impact of international students in the UK surged from £31.3 billion in 2018/19 to £41.9 billion by 2021/22. On average, every parliamentary constituency in Britain benefits by £58 million. Some regions rely more heavily than others on this influx of global talent. In Sheffield, for example, international students contribute around £770 million annually to the city’s economy, while across Yorkshire and the Humber, that total exceeds £2.9 billion. In cities such as Leicester, Exeter, Nottingham, and Dundee, universities are among the leading exporters, accounting for up to 15% of total local exports. These figures show how universities serve as economic anchors, especially outside the Southeast. International students contribute through tuition, housing, local spending, and by supporting jobs in retail and hospitality.

Journalists have spent too much time talking to think tanks (🤮 #HEPI) and the employers association (🤢 #UCEA / #UUK ) and little time.
We as front line staff members both experience the cuts and have dedicated time to understanding this problem.
Who @qmucu.bsky.social is telling ministers that these are the structural problems and how they propagate through the system? #UCEA? Friggin #HEPI? 🤣
And the revolutionaries amongst our union membership have no interest in tackling structural finance issues. So... 🤷🏻

So Nick #Hillman helped cause this mess when he was a SPAD in the #Cameron government by gutting #UKHE gov funding grants and hiking the cap on tuition. He is also very proud of removing the institutional student caps. His think tank #HEPI exists to launder this BS to the press. Yay #austerity
In the last month I've done 40 hours of teaching, drop-in support clinics and individual student support appointments. Not to mention the rest of my actual job as a law librarian. But apparently none of that counts as 'teaching' for the purposes of value for money... #hepi
