Thin layer of snow on the sidewalks today in peninsula Kjipuktuk/Halifax #hfxws . Watch your footing if you're walking. Road surfaces mostly clear - take the lane #BikeHFX. Bollards have completely vanished from the Donham Diverter but no evidence of crushing - pick one up if you spot any en route

Another section of unpaved trail through woods about 25% bare. Remainder snow and ice.

#hfxws sidewalks are mostly clear, but it seems Halifax has given up on clearing bike lanes. Even P1 lanes like Almon St are a dangerous mix of ice and slush. Use extreme caution!

#hfxws Back from errands, it's a slushy mess out there. And of course whereas many low priority roads have had some form of action taken P1 sidewalks we are waiting to melt in southern D8.

#hfxws: I rode from Flinn Park to AGNS then to Central library. Bad spots here:
Sections of north Common pathway are flooded with icy water. I rode through, very uncomfortably; avoid if possible.
Hollis bikelane has icy sections, from snowbank melt. Worse is the hole in temp ramp/decking tho.

#hfxws Some black ice on core active transportation roads wherever there was run-off yesterday. It seems we don't drain these roads the same was we do driver roads.
Worse section, the Ahern MUP and the HFX Common North side (though didn't check the middle road of the south side)

even "cleared" walking space is a mess, plow went once and didn't care if they cleared to surface, lakes in all dips, collapsed snow and packed sidewalks from prior storms (Agricola)
Also as usual the Patio Stone sections of the Hfx Common MUP feel slippery underfoot

An early morning image of a school with a large pile of dirty snow in the middle of the turning loop that is serving as a roundabout. The school is brick built with lots of windows and a light fixed to the roof which casts a cheery glow on the grey snow banks & sparkles off the asphalt.
The same old #hfxws story on #Halisky streets after messy snow/rain mix overnight. Clear pavement for driving in the urban core & active gritting ops. The odd cleared sidewalk but most still snow covered, lakes at curb cuts, bike lanes used as snow storage. Still, nice roundabout at Oxford School!

#hfxws: I rode from Flinn Park to the Brewery market and back. Protected lanes (SP, Hollis, LW) and Commons pathways all have patches of ice from frozen snowbank melt. Lots of icy curb cuts too.
I replaced the #BikeHfx Donham Diverter cones @ 7:15 & again @ 8:20. Will do again later today, surely.

A multiuse path in a city that should be able to figure out drainage and winter maintenance but hasn’t, so there is a ton of ice on the path
A multiuse path with snow on both sides and a long very slick ice patch in the middle
#hfxws & #BikeHfx update:
- Barrington greenway between North & Niobe Gate is mostly wet now, but still some ice
- bridge bike lane is salted but very icy. Stick to the north side of the lane.
- Dartmouth waterfront trail is mostly fine till Old Ferry Rd, but full of ice & no salt south of Parker

Yesterday I spotted a neighbour lying prone on an icy sidewalk after wiping out. They took a blow to the head even while wearing cleats - but thankfully OK. It's more of the same today with snow melt freezing on sidewalks. Roads mstly clear & well gritted - if it's shiny it's slick #hfxws #BikeHFX

One more #hfxws update on this area from my ride home. Most of the slushy ice has now been removed from the Liverpool, Armcrescent & Saunders Park pathways. Bayers MUP curb cuts look better. Lots of water though. Salt has been applied to most sidewalks in Westmount and the Flinn Park neighbourhood.

#hfxws update from my lunchtime ride: the Armcrescent and Saunders park pathways are still covered with a thick layer of uneven ice. The Bayers MUP and GD cycletrack are wet, but mostly clear now due to rising temps. Still narrow and slushy in some spots, and curb cuts are still dicey.

#hfxws reported 311 last night access to safely reach some pedestrian push buttons on COLT blocked by snow banks at Springvale, Chain Lake Dr, Horseshoe Lake Dr, and Hobsons Lake Dr.

#hfxws: I rode from Flinn Park to Bayers Rd centre. Vehicle lanes on main roads (Mumford, Bayers) are well cleared. Side streets still a mix of slush/ice. Monolith has been cleared & salted. GD cycle track & Bayers MUP are icy slush. I dismounted a lot. Curb cuts at Ralston are blocked by snow.
