For every person initiating PrEP since 2012 there have been 3 new HIV acquisitions. Data from Africa shows that 26 million people need to be on PrEP to avert 250,000 infections.
We need to do so much better!

Hepatitis C rates have dropped among people w HIV in Spain, from 54% in 2002 to 1% in 2021.
Concerns remain bc there is no HCV vaccine (reinfection rates: 4-5%) and “risky” behaviors, which I assume refers to injection drug use and condomless sex.

I’m often told that using people first language is too much to ask of researchers who speak English as a 2nd language.
I counter that some of the best presenters at #HIVGlasgow — w the most appropriate language — speak English as their second language.
In other words, it’s a choice.

20.7% had depression symptoms. 15.2% anxiety.
There were strong negative associations w financial precarity, unemployment, unstable housing, lack of social support, active injection drug use, & disbelief in U=U.

I’ve just changed meds and so have decided to give it a couple of months before I start statins, just to reduce the variables in play if there are problems with my new treatment.
It is vital that people with HIV are informed and empowered to fully engage with our treatment options.
