Stunning ALMA image of the HL Tauri protoplanetary disk, revealing gaps likely carved by forming planets. This young star system, only one million years old, challenges our understanding of planet formation speed. The image, taken with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), shows unprecedented detail of the disk's structure, approximately 1500 light-minutes across, with features as small as 40 light-minutes resolved. The disk is located about 450 light years from Earth.
