Book cover with a green gradient background for "The Organism–Environment Pairing: A Historical and Philosophical Reappraisal" by Alejandro Fábregas-Tejeda (MIT Press, 2026). The book series label “The Vienna Series in Theoretical Biology” appears at the top. The title is set in large, bold lettering using three colors: white (“The” and “Pairing”), warm yellow (“Organism–”), and bright green (“Environment”). The subtitle appears below in smaller white text, and the author’s name is printed at the bottom. In the lower right, a monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) rests on clusters of pink milkweed flowers. Behind it, a large pale-green butterfly silhouette fills the background; its outline follows the shape of a red lacewing butterfly (Cethosia biblis). The layered butterflies visually echo the book’s central idea of an organism–environment pairing.

What Does Epistemological Scientism Mean for Philosophy? Insights from John Dewey’s Philosophy of Science | HOPOS: The Journal of the International Society for the History of Philosophy of Science: Vol 15, No 2 When discussing scientism, the most often cited concerns among philosophers are scientism’s implications for the legitimacy of philosophical methods and concepts and for philosophy’s value as a…

In the latest issue of #HOPOS, Parysa Mostajir writes that John Dewey espouses a version of epistemological scientism, but one that 'diverges' significantly from more recent versions.

Big Biology strains common accounts of pursuitworthiness. @parvathi.bsky.social & Arrabito argue that these projects blend inquiry, infrastructure development & community platforms and propose a new framework to capture how scientists assess their value👇 link.springer.com/article/10.1... #HPBio #HPS

The page announces a seminar titled “The logical geometry of formal inconsistency” by Atahan Erbas. The event is scheduled for March 20, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (Europe/Brussels), and is organized by Jan Heylen.

Abstract

Logics of formal inconsistency are paraconsistent logics that (1) do not suppose the principle of explosion, e.g. '𝜑 ∧ ¬𝜑 implies any formula', (2) and express the consistency of a formula 𝜑 with an operator '◦'. So ◦𝜑 means "𝜑 is consistent". Aristotelian diagrams (AD) are graphical representations of (1) formulas, as nodes, and (2) the logical relations, such as contradiction and contrariety, as vertices, between them.

In this paper, we construct ADs for the two-valued logics of formal inconsistency, within the framework of logical geometry. First, we provide an alternative perspective on logical geometry by introducing ADs, based on classical logics, as Boolean algebras. We do so by relating ADs with the formulas of propositional logic. Second, we investigate what happens to the Boolean structure of ADs when the underlying logic of ADs becomes a non-classical logic. Third, we demonstrate the logic-sensitivity of ADs based on the logics of formal inconsistency and attempt to construct a typology of ADs in the logics of formal inconsistency.

How do Aristotelian diagrams behave beyond classical #logic? 🤔

Join us to discuss how Atahan Erbas develops them for logics of formal inconsistency in today's CLPS seminar!

One of Habermas' many merits was to be the first to understand the reactionary form of postmodernism behind Adorno and Horkheimer's unduly influential Dialectics of Enlightenment.

No thinker ever did so much to restore the cause of reason.
