Dreamy Mettle

Morning arrives in a dreamy hush. Light pooling across the floor like something sacred and half-remembered. I sit with my mint tea and consider the grand weight of becoming —how often we mistake endurance for silence. My mettle was not forged in noise, but in quiet reckonings. By planting myself firmly where doubt tried to uproot me. Even life’s small shenanigans— the missteps, the awkward confessions, the love that arrived sideways— have shaped the spine of my virtues. I am still here, still held, still unafraid to bloom.

dawn dew on my hands—
roots deepen thru ancient soil
shield soul-seeds unseen.

The Children Question

A seven-year-old asks why grown-ups are so angry all the time. She has watched us transform dinner conversations into battlefields
—seen us teach her to be suspicious of her friend’s parents based on bumper stickers and lawn signs. We promised her a world where kindness would be the currency of progress—where differences could be bridges rather than walls. Instead, we have handed her an inheritance of lies.
A legacy of us-versus-them; she carries fury to school in her backpack alongside our hate and her dreams. She learns that love is conditional, that community is fragile, that the adults she trusts cannot keep their promises.

Small hand reaches out—
even children know how to
build what we tear down.
