Anyway, I can spot 2012’s Typhoon #Bopha / #PabloPH in Mindanao and 2013’s Typhoon #Haiyan / #YolandaPH in the Visayas, which tells me that they did use historical data.
One of my first ever papers documented medical needs in a hard-hit community after my country 🇵🇭 braved #Haiyan, the strongest typhoon to ever hit landfall.
Now, as a D&I researcher at #discience24, I now wonder how we could have studied the response then.

11 years ago today I hunted Cat-5 Super #Typhoon #HAIYAN in the #Philippines —one of the strongest landfalling cyclones in history. A cataclysmic storm surge swept Tacloban City like a tsunami. Our hotel went underwater & I jumped into the surge to drag people out. The aftermath: thousands dead.
