Max, Agatha, and Leonard! Assuming they're at Ur here. #HalafNotTwitter

Hey look who it is, Agatha Christie and Max Mallowan! I was hoping if you zoomed in you'd get some Chagar Bazar Halaf level material, but no such luck. #HalafNotTwitter

Someone tell me how the new NOVA Göbekli special is. I started watching it but it made me sad, so I switched to the previous episode on mammals. #HalafNotTwitter

#HalafNotTwitter, Sarah Costello's not on here, is she?

#HalafNotTwitter for a moment I was like, "YEESSSS..." but no. It's not us. 😪

Interesting evolutionary perspective. I can't think of a single Paleolithic or Neolithic depiction of kissing from Southwest Asia. Can any of you? #HalafNotTwitter

Probably true. (But see non-starvation cannibalism at the Late Neolithic/Halaf agricultural village of Domuztepe, feasting hospitality inverted. #HalafNotTwitter)

@willdalrymple.bsky.social Isn't this ICE case basically parallel to the story of the Scottish Massacre at Glencoe?

I know that #Sandokan is supposed to be in Sarawak here, but I appreciate the PPNC/Late Neolithic/Halafyness or maybe Çatalhöyükiness of the wall bucrania in thus scene's set dressing. #HalafNotTwitter.

Boucranialicious! The ghosts of Halafian people approve, presumably. (Side note: there are no boucrania gifs, sadly.) #HalafNotTwitter

If only Late Neolithic/Halaf people painted cats on their ceramics. There are some domestic cat bones from a site whose name I'm blanking on at the moment (begins with a C, not Chagar Bazar), and they do paint cheetahs and leopards but *very rarely*. #HalafNotTwitter

Heeeeyyy look whose site shows up on here? Shhh. We have two ceramic sherds with polychrome flowers & a few others that might have palm fronds (or they might be wings, unclear). There is a missing sherd, unfortunately, that disappeared in the dig house with flowers under rain. #HalafNotTwitter

I saw that!! I have some of those polychrome flower motifs on my own ceramics! Feeling cranky that I didn't write that article; I have a whole unfinished thing written that includes Halaf plant motifs on ceramics. But it's very cool imagery and I'm glad that's out there! #HalafNotTwitter

I'm an archaeologist who posts about the Late Neolithic Halaf cultural phenomenon in SE Türkiye, N Syria and N Iraq (with some outliers elsewhere), usually under #HalafNotTwitter. Basically, if you're familiar with Göbekli Tepe and the Taş Tepeler sites, these people roughly followed them.

So glad this tradition didn't survive to the Late Neolithic regionally. #HalafNotTwitter
