A mixed media collage assembled from children's handprints and mark making, patterned papers, and a framing mat. At the top left, a large handprint in green, purple, and yellow paint on white paper has been turned into a hummingbird. A thin slice of purple cardstock has been used for the beak. The top right is occupied by a butterfly. It was assembled from two toddler handprints in purple paint, plus a green body cut from some of the toddler's paint splattering/scraping/brushing/squishing experiments. One green paint brush was briefly tested for snack worthiness. The hummingbird and butterfly are partially on the mat, and have adhesive spacers keeping them slightly elevated from the blue and white buffalo plaid background. Towards the bottom, a mix of green patterned papers have been used on the reverse side of the mat along with the blue plaid to create hills. More green paper was used on top of the mat to expand the hills in the foreground and create more depth. The tree/shrub branches and trunk are what happens when you allow the older kiddo to "find out what happens if I mix purple, green, and yellow all together on my hands". The foliage and bushes/moss are a mix of cutouts from toddler mark making, secondary prints made by removing excess handprint paints, and patterned paper scraps. Like the bird and butterfly, the trees are adhered to the front side of the mat at their edges and are slightly raised from the main background with adhesive spacers.
