We are continuing our weekly artwork feature today, as well as, our rainbow / pride-inspired artworks for the month of June! Somehow we are already at the last Wednesday of the month!! Today we're happy to be sharing, "Rainbow Redolence," a 16x12" Acrylic on Canvas from March 2025. [Original Artwork Available @ https://www.craigscanvases.com/shop/p/rainbow-redolence]. The inspiration for creating this piece was to once again capture all the colors of the rainbow and then plop them into one vase together! While painting this artwork, we were reminded of a quote from Hans Hofmann, "In nature, light creates the color. In the picture, color creates the light." Artist's Statement / Backstory: I painted this piece with the same, or at least very similar, notion as "ROY G BIV In Bloom" to portray the colors of the spectrum [rainbow] not how we normally view it. I worked to ensure the colors I used were accurate for the flowers being added to the bouquet being presented like the yellow asiatic lilies or the purple liatris. A compelling name for the piece was a little more of a challenge; but, I was compelled to use redolence as it means 'pleasant or strong odor.' I'm quite certain all these blooms would produce that! Additionally, in reading one other description of redolence it says, 'having qualities (especially smells) that make you think of something else.' That seemed to really encapsulate the blooming flowers and the way in which I hid the colors of the spectrum in plain sight!

In 1915, he opened his own art school in Munich, which operated until 1930, when he was invited to teach in the USA. While in New York, he served as a mentor to Helen Frankenthaler, Ray Eames, and Lee Krasner, as well as becoming close friend of Jackson Pollock. #HansHofmann
