Always good to find an excuse for a walk from @thecrownhartest; earned our fabulous Sunday lunch with a 6 miler, over the River Glem (with signs of recent flood water) to Boxted & up a green lane. Old Man's Beard & Shaggy Ink Cap along the way.

Meadow Cranesbill (Geranium pratense) is a rare treat in #WestSuffolk.
Field Bindweed & Scentless Mayweed at peak pretty.
Imperforate St John's Wort (Hypericum maculatum) is among the Hypericums to be found along the way.

Providers of the white lace fringes of a July walk around #Hartest include Hedge Bedstraw (Galium album), Traveller's Joy and the rich creaminess of Meadowsweet.

Dewberry and Rowan fruits ripe now.

Highlight of the day, my first Spotted Flycatcher of the year on #Hartest village green, situated at the base of the steepest hill in #Suffolk.

Swallows flying low over ripening barley with skylarks, still loud, high in the heavy sky (sky the colour of Field Scabious seeming a rather distant memory) & the Yellowhammer’s refrain back down below, overlooked by an old Ash who's doubtless seen a thing or two.

Some #arableweeds #arableplants around #Hartest #Suffolk: Clustered Dock (Rumex conglomeratus) and Curled Dock (Rumex crispus) looking rather spectacularly red, Hoary willowherb (Epilobium parviflorum) & Spear Thistle (Cirsium vulgare).

Then the sun sank into a cradle of trees, before leaving a valedictory glow over the still, chill, tranquil #Suffolk countryside while the Buzzard looked out for one last morsel of supper.
