I missed #HeaviesGB due to a house move but just ordered this to join in with #BastilleBuild.

I like these ancient 1/100 Tamiya kits, I've made a few of them up for wargaming.

That’s the underside painted. I’ve cut some masks for the wavy boundary between the upper and lower camo on the sides. A lot of masking to do tomorrow.

Engine nacelles masked. Fiddly and time consuming but very satisfying. The biggest problem is not breaking off the sticky-out bits - I’ve already broken the front turret gun off 🙄

1/72 scale engine pods of a KC-135A model kit, being reworked for accuracy's sake.

The back or upper side of the J57 engine pods have been raised a bit using bits of plastic card, sanded back to a more correct profile. Work in progress! #histscalemodels #HeaviesGB

Does anyone read these? Picture shows parts of a 1/72 scale KC-135A model kit. Engine pods are being seperated from their pylons so I can correct the engine shapes. Slightly unnecessary? Who knows.

Engine covers are now on the 1/72 KC-135A's J57s. Then it dawned on me that some engine pod details & shapes were wrong & that most efficient way of dealing with those was by first cutting off the engines from their pylons. #notgivingmyselfanybreaks #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels

I’ve got these aileron control horns/counter balances to fit before priming and, of course, all the locating sockets are too small and need to be re-worked. This kit never stops fighting 🙄

The #HeaviesGB Sunderland?

Great to have been part of this group build -- Is it okay to keep using the #HeaviesGB for the build I started for the GB but haven't completed yet?

Heavies GB YouTube video by Slightly Caddish

Let's celebrate a short (just 1 min 20sec but in 4HD this time) review of our #HeaviesGB this autumn in the #histscalemodels community. I am very happy how this little group came together once again, thank you all so much for participating.

Inspired by @richardjdeacon.bsky.social to try an EMHAR model kit and being quite taken by the AK xTreme Metal effect on the Liberator ( #HeaviesGB video is in the making process), this is next on the bench:

Bonjour #histscalemodels !
Now that #HeaviesGB has concluded, I would like to propose a new group build for 2026. I floated the idea a while back and people seemed interested, so here we go:

#BastilleBuild will run from May 1st to July 14th!

Here's the final sitrep for our #HeaviesGB:
We have a fantastic turnout of 17 builds completed, really amazing ideas turned into reality. Congrats to all of you, including those additional 20 aircraft which didn't get airborne the past 3 months.
Thank you all so much, video to come this month.

A few shots taken in daylight with a helpful breeze providing 'engine power'. My model of the Focke Wulf Fw 200 Condor prototype as seen on the Berlin - New York flight of 1938. 1/72 Revell with Print Scale decals. Great inspiration by #HeaviesGB in #histscalemodels, thanks, @jaaaagirr.bsky.social !

Formal photos of the completed model. Thanks to @jaaaagirr.bsky.social for leading the project, and all the other contributions to see - good luck to everyone else racing to the finish line of #HeaviesGB in #histscalemodels !

If there's interest I can share some build photos and saga, say the word!

*Done as in I'm stopping there, and the Kristal Kleer's been applied, but is still drying - I'm sure it'll be fully translucent by midnight!

A few tweaks and some other display ideas down the road, but I'll taje a breather and enjoy everyone else's contributions, too! #HeaviesGB in #histscalemodels

Well, with an hour and a half to go (local time) and a BIG push to the end, it's DONE*. The Focke Wulf Fw 200 airliner prototype D-ACON, as on the 24 hour non-stop flight from Flugplatz Berlin-Staaken, Germany, to Floyd Bennett Field, New York, USA, 10-11 August 1938. #HeaviesGB in #histscalemodels

Did you miss me? Current status. It was a silver monster, then a lumpy blue monster (masking tape) now a shiny black lumpy monster, but I'm surprisingly pleased to be here - nearing the end of the build and (fingers crossed) the end of #HeaviesGB in #histscalemodels, thanks, @jaaaagirr.bsky.social!

Dragged out the old Monogram B17-G Flying Fortress to compare him with Corky. A bit bigger. 🤔😅 #histscalemodels #HeaviesGB

And galloping up on the ropes….. a Tallboy Lancaster to be marked as KC-G DV403 of 617sqn from RAF Woodall Spa. Won’t be complete by the deadline as don’t have the decals for it yet, but should be in paint

Slathering black Mr Surfacer in- and onto gaps around the windscreen part. Later I sanded everything back, including raised details on the transparency and a few eindow panes, then polished all back to crystal clarity.

1/72 KC-135. Used an aftermarket masking set but turned out not ao good, so had to help things along with yellow masking tape.

In the process of restoring the rear fuselage re-enforcement ribs on this 1/72 scale KC-135 model. The ribs were sacrificed in order to remove the fuselage seam line. I will cover this area with successive layers of Mr Surfacer. If all goes well, after removing the masking tape, raised detail will remain.

In continuation of the #HeaviesGB 1/72 KC-135A build, which I will able to finish only through divine intervention, which is nice, here's the process of restoring the rear fuselage re-enforcement ribs which were sacrificed earlier in order to remove the top fuselage seam line. #histscalemodels

Airbrushes cleaned ahead of the big Sunderland paint 👍😊. There’s going to be quite a lot of masking on this one 😰

That worked well. Thanks to @traindriverdave.bsky.social for the UV resin idea 👍😊. I’ve cut some masks on the vinyl cutter.

Right, I’ve put some Bare Metal foil in the back of the light apertures and put the bulbs in. Now for a few layers of UV resin then sand and polish 👍😊

badly done scale KC-97 model, partially built, with a shoddy silver airbrished paint job and really different looking silver paint on the whole front bubble, which is supposed to match the fuselage but is a sort of clear plastic dome and so should have had more prep to match

I haven't forgotten my #HistScaleModels #HeaviesGB project but after meeting what I'm now calling The Anticanopy I'm backing up and regrouping.

The light covers are, of course, way too small for the thickness of the wing 🙄. Looks like I’m going to have to hot bend some clear sheet. Getting a bit bored with this now.
