The image shows Hester Prime, a time-traveling, cyborg version of Hester Prynne from Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, who was transported to the year 2061 after making contact with an eldritch deity through witchcraft. The image is black and white line art with a red scarlet letter A on Hester's chest and a spatter of red blood on the ground and her boots around a black square concealing what's happened underneath. Hester is standing confidently, gazing at the viewer, as her ragged cloak and wild hair whip in the wind behind her. She is casually holding across her hip a massive, odd-looking rifle with a wooden bolt and curved, fringe pincers at its nose. She wears a witch's peaked hat on her head, and her cloak has a large upturned, trenchcoat-like collar. Her right eye and had have been replaced with cybernetic versions, her hand a skeleton-like claw and the boxy eye implant having wires which extend over her forehead above it. In her mouth she is chewing a wheat stalk, which is bending in the wind. Around Hester in a scratchy scrawl are written two Hawthorne quotations from the book, "She had returned, therefore, and resumed - of her own free will, resumed the SYMBOL," and "They said it meant ABLE, so strong was she with a WOMAN'S STRENGTH."
