Comfort in Desire

Actions speak louder than words, or so they say. For Thancred they spoke of fear and regret, and for Himiko a supposedly unrequited love…

Tug of War

With Himiko's secret out, Thancred has no choice but to confront her. However, he never expected to stare into a mirror in the process.

I'm Here

Nightmares were rare but nothing new, and unfortunately, Himiko was growing too used to dealing with them.

Relax, Reflect

For Himiko, it had always been hard to pinpoint the exact moment she and Thancred met. Yet, with Venat's help, it appears that the answer has been simple all of this time...

The world seemed so small from atop her stone rail perch, Himiko’s green eyes staring down with curiosity and content. There was a calm stillness to Elpis despite time and the lives of many continuing to march on down below. Despite the familiar comfort of Venat’s voice being carried through the air… It was all enough to quell the anxious thoughts that kept screaming to her, plaguing her every step of the way. At this moment they were quiet. So quiet it was almost as if they ceased to exist. She closed her eyes, trying to take in every moment of the silence she could, focusing only on Venat.

“And amidst it all a people. Beacons of light and life. Laughter that warmed my heart like naught else before. They are my purpose. My love. And so long as they need help, I cannot return to the star…” There was a pause, Venat looking at Himiko with a fond, vaguely mischievous grin. “A feeling I believe you know all too well.”

“How so?” Himiko asked, still slightly distracted and enamoured by the peace.

“Well, when you were telling me about your adventures, you seemed to deeply care about everyone you described. But there seems to be a person you love more than anyone else.” Venat hummed, feigning the act of thinking. “A man named Thancred, wasn’t it?”

Himiko’s eyes quickly snapped open, her gaze finally meeting Venat’s. The woman seemed to be attempting to stifle a laugh as her cheeks grew beet red. “D-did I really make it that obvious?” She stuttered.

“Remember when I mentioned that glimmer in your eyes as you described the world?” Venat finally let out a soft, sighing giggle. “That very same glimmer appeared with every mention of his name.”

The red of Himiko’s cheeks faded and their normal rosy hue returned. Her lips curled into a nervous smile and she brought a hand to her heart. “That’s because he’s also my world… As silly and cliche as that sounds.”

Regaling tales of your adventures when you're lovestruck... Yeah, of course your mentor and the woman you see as your mother will notice. 🤭💕

Lips pressed against bare skin, taking in the taste of cattleya and the subtle remainder of salt. A giggle escaped from their target as warm breath mingled with the feeling of steam, Thancred unable to hold back a chuckle of his own. He wrapped his arms around Himiko, pulling her closer. A smile graced the woman’s face as her head leaned back, her eyes looking upwards in content. Her now undone green and white tresses fell behind her, glistening with clean, soapy water. As their gazes met, Thancred brought a hand up and began to stroke Himiko’s cheek, brushing away a few wet strands of hair that had found themselves stuck.

Thancred felt his eye starting to twitch. He let out a groan. Once more he grabbed Himiko’s hand, this time tighter. He dragged her towards a nearby alleyway, feeling himself shrink at the attention of the crowd.

As they disappeared into the shadows, they were left alone. Gently, he pulled Himiko towards a wall as she stumbled forward, letting go and placing his hand above her head. “Quiet.” He said through gritted teeth, his tone demanding yet soft. He watched as Himiko drew back, the slight pang of anger within him subsiding as he saw the fear in her features. He placed a finger under her chin, lifting her head. “I’m not mad at you.”

Himiko had become frozen, the shopping bag falling from her grasp. She could feel Thancred’s warm breath brushing against her skin. She could see the exhaustion in his features. The intensity in his one-eyed stare. She pressed closer towards the wall, her nails attempting to dig into the cold stone. “Then why… Why won’t you just talk to me?”

“Because I would prefer silence.” He replied, looking down and noting the confusion in Himiko’s eyes.

“Why?”

“It’s comforting.”

Himiko’s gaze became downtrodden, her hands now growing slack. “Doesn’t it hurt to bottle up your emotions like that?”

Thancred’s expression fell; that fear he’d seen had transformed into pain. Deep down, he knew the true reason why she had insisted they be alone. Yet, she seemed so… Concerned. He pulled away. “Sometimes, that’s all we can do.”
