Front and back of a page of Hebrew liturigcal music from a 12th-century Cairo Genizah manuscript. The Hebrew lyrics run parallel with the notes of 'Lombardic neumatic notation'.
This pic comes from p. 17 of my new book (linktr.ee/CambridgeGRU). It's the oldest known notation of #Hebrew liturgical music, arranged by Obadiah the Proselyte using formulas derived from Gregorian chant. Obadiah was a former Norman-Italian priest who converted to #Judaism in 1102. #historyofmusic
