More meta than meta, it feels like an in-universe 80s thriller about Maxine. It revels in its melodrama and exaggeration, but never compromises the characters or asks the viewer if they "get it," creating a unique cognitive dissonance.

Excellent performances anchor a suspenseful, cerebral thriller. Although it’s about religion, it adeptly threads the needle of questioning and admiring faith in a way that challenges the viewer but lets them draw their own conclusion.

A surprisingly good prequel of a franchise that had run out of gas years ago, made more relevant by current political strife. Although it’s clear how things will end up it’s still tense, distressing, and has truly shocking moments.

Strange Darling did the job for me!! Enjoyed this one so much! It is a total gore fest (which is not my thing) but the cleverly shuffled non-linear storytelling, the maximum saturation palette, and of course that maniacal lead performance 🔝🔝🔝
