‼️ Giant manta off the coast of New York and New Jersey. About 10 feet across. A team of WCS scientists from the New York Aquarium recently spotted it on a research trip to #HudsonCanyon.

One reason why I was excited to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Arcturus expedition by joining the livestream at @wcs.org's CPZ of the NOAA research cruise in #HudsonCanyon with contemporary artists is because 25 years ago I was on a deep sea expedition in #PNG with my own box of watercolors
100 years ago, WCS scientists explored #HudsonCanyon. What set this work apart was not just the science but how it was shared with the public.
Today, we carry this legacy forward, says WCS’s John Calvelli, as part of a campaign to protect it.

On an ROV dive yesterday, @noaa.gov scientists encountered a coral garden nearly half a mile deep in #HudsonCanyon, including coral species that were completely unexpected.

The WCS Ocean Giants Team does extensive research in the waters between Cape May, NJ, and Montauk, NY, to provide the science needed to protect marine species in the area and their habitat.

100 years ago, the Arcturus Oceanographic Expedition set sail from New York.
Led by our then-Department of Tropical Research (DTR), the 6-month voyage made an unexpected stop at the end at the little-known #HudsonCanyon.
Isabel Cooper, a DTR staff artist, made 100+ illustrations on the expedition.
Today, WCS is working to designate the #hudsoncanyon as a National Marine Sanctuary. See www.wcs.org/get-involved... for more.

This action achieves some of the desired outcomes of a National Marine Sanctuary for #HudsonCanyon but a designation is still needed to expand federal investment in long-term science monitoring, STEM education, and workforce development tied to this fragile and highly productive marine ecosystem.
Not just Australia's coastline and marine life which is besieged by #windturbines thanks to #WEF / globalist #NetZero scam, but many other countries around the world.
Not even #HudsonCanyon off the coast of #NewYork & #NewJersey has been spared from the madness.
