Gallery citation: There Is No Night is a fine example of his later style, with its expressive handling of the paint, applied both with the brush and directly from the tube. Yeats has placed a rising man and a galloping white horse in a mystical landscape. The title is taken from the Book of Revelation in the New Testament.

Gallery citation (extract): With the receding tide, the river is at its lowest ebb, but there is still a boat afloat. Yeats was fascinated by tides and noted the state of the water in the titles of his early landscapes. In his later pictures, the sea and river attained metaphorical associations. Here, Yeats suggests that low tide is a time for contemplation and resuscitation before the tide turns again.
