It was great to meet parents, Rohana and Katie, with It's Never You and learn more about the importance of the Parents Deserve Better campaign.
When a child is critically ill, parents face extraordinary pressure emotionally & financially.
I am proud to reaffirm my support for #HughsLaw.

Whatever Rachel Reeves does tomorrow, she couldn't find peanuts for the families of sick and/or dying children in hospital

I am proud to support Hugh's Law which seeks changes to legislation to provide parents of seriously and terminally ill children with support from day one.

I was pleased to add my name to the letter supporting Hugh’s Law and the It’s Never You campaign. No parent should have to choose between being at their child’s bedside and financial survival. Our welfare system must be there when families need it most. #HughsLaw #ItsNeverYou
I stand with Ceri Menai-Davis, lead campaigner of #HughsLaw, in pushing for statutory paid leave for parents whose child is battling serious illness.
No traumatised parent should face poverty when their child desperately needs them by their side, holding their hand.

It is not right that in the UK there is no financial support for parents of critically ill or terminally ill children. That is why I'm backing #HughsLaw

#HughsLaw - currently there is no financial support for parents of seriously ill children. That has to change

Of all the people who ran the London Marathon a few Sundays ago, Ceri Menai-Davis is special. I met him in Parliament when he came to speak about his story.
Ceri ran the marathon with 20kgs on his back: the weight of his child, Hugh, at the end of his life.
I'm proud to support #HughsLaw

I was proud to join fellow MPs from across the House in support of the It's Never You Campaign for #HughsLaw
I hope that the Minister listens to this appeal, led by Ceri & Frances, and puts in place the change that parents deserve.

🚨 No parent should have to choose between caring for their sick child & financial survival. Yet, there's no safety net for the first 90 days after diagnosis.
That’s why I’ve co-signed a letter urging the Govt to back #HughsLaw —a vital grant to support families in crisis. 💙#ItsNeverYou
Last week's highlights included:
🗳️ Voting for the Children's Wellbeing & Schools Bill
🏥 Hosting a reception for It's Never You's #HughsLaw campaign
🏫 Meeting parents concerned about the preschool in Barkway
🌊 An Environmental Audit Committee enquiry session on protecting our oceans and seas
Charlotte Cane MP holding a placard which reads “I support #HUGHESLAW. No parent should have to choose between work and their sick child.”
Earlier this week I heard a powerful speech by Ceri Menai-Davis, who lost his son Hugh to cancer.
Parents of sick children need financial support so they can support their family. #HughsLaw
(6/7) I was also disheartened to hear the Minister refuse to support #HughsLaw. He says that the 3-month period is necessary to determine whether or not a disability is short or long term, but this is a refusal to understand that cancer is almost always inherently a long-term condition.
(4/7) It's Never You was founded by two incredible people, Ceri and Frances Menai-Davis. They have together campaigned for #HughsLaw, after their son sadly passed away due to cancer. Hugh's Law would remove the 3-month wait and to get financial support on day one.
No parent should have to choose between work and caring for their sick child.
I was honoured to speak at It's Never You's Westminster event yesterday, and will continue supporting my constituents Ceri and Frances' campaign to introduce #HughsLaw.

I was deeply moved to meet Ceri and Frances Menai-Davis to hear about #HughsLaw. Too many families face financial and emotional struggles while caring for a sick child. I stand with them in calling for urgent change.

I support #HughsLaw. Hearing from It's Never You about their incredible work was deeply moving. Families of sick children face enough struggles. Financial support should be there from day one. Let’s make this urgent change happen. 💙 #ChildhoodCancer #SupportFamilies
Pleasure to meet Ceri Menai-Davis from It's Never You today in Parliament as he campaigns for change.
#HughsLaw would support families when they need it most and provide financial assistance for parents of critically ill children with streamlined applications & day one support.
I support #HughsLaw.
Hugh sadly passed away due to a rare form of cancer. His mum and dad have done incredible work in campaigning to give families of chronically ill children financial support from day one - they already have enough to worry about, finances shouldn't be one of them!
This new law exemplifies the desperation of those providing unpaid care & the inadequacies of the system. But another law only benefitting a small group of carers highlights the need for big system change that centres care. #HughsLaw #carers #neweconomy #wearetheeconomy
