#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: I have not seen anyone using the feeders for about two weeks (a few at the vines, but none for over a week). Thus, 2025 is in the books. Hope C & J are well, & we get another group next year!

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Seems like C & J are still around. They sat fueling up & hanging out for about 5 minutes. Mrs. Science Teacher wondered if the adults left the kids behind. I have seen others around the city.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: They grow up so fast! C (sitting) & J (flying) checking out the newest feeder. They will be migrating soon.

Hoping we get another pair next year (10 years since the nest appeared with 8 successful pairs & only 2020 skipped).

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Been a while since any updates. I took down one of the feeders this weekend (3 are still up) as the season is winding down. C & J, plus a few others, are here for about 3 more weeks if typical timetable holds.

In honor of them!

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 22 with C &J. As you can see, the nest is empty. C took off just before 7:00 am today & I saw J take off about 90 minutes later. I will keep my crossing signs up for a while as they sometimes come back & will be hanging out to get food from the feeders/vines /1

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 21 with C &J. Another double pic from both sides. C is up & rocking back & forth (it is windy). Hoping no one comes up on the porch (I did not check the mail for this reason). J seems content in the nest.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 20 with C & J. Happy 4th of July! In 20 days will be the big celebration in SLC & Utah. By then, we may be empty nesters again with them staying nearby.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 19 with C & J brought a change. It was J who was talking to me more this morning (usually it is C). Twice now I have thought Mama was there when it was just one of them moving to a different spot.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 17 with C & J. Well, no mirror needed anymore as I am not sure how they fit in there. Odd thinking soon we may have our 8th pair out in the world (only 2019 did not make it & 2020 got skipped).

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 15 with C & J. I was not going to take a pic today but after watching Mama feed them in the morning, this afternoon they showed Beaks Peak. I am guessing within 10 days they will fledge.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 14 with C & J. They were chirping when I put up the mirror. I think C was saying “Why are you bothering us on a Saturday morning?”. Mrs. Science Teacher thinks they wanted me to give them food. We both could be right!

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 12 with C & J. Today, they did what I call the “Beaks Peak” at one point. That is, position themselves so you see the two beaks straight up from the nest like twin towers. Mama is not sitting on that for sure!

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 10 with C & J. Yesterday & this morning, their beaks & feathers were starting to pop out of the nest with the mirror. Unfortunately, I cannot feed them!

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Day 8 for C & J. I got to watch Mama feeding them! This was the last bit she gave before hopping onto the nest. It is in the 40s/50s after 90s/100s, so they all could use the warmth.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: This is Day 6 for C & J. First signs of “food processing” on the porch. Yep, you can see a hungry C with mouth open.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: This is Day 5 for C & J. Mama was sitting on the edge a bit more. It is over 100 degrees here today. Not sure I would want to sit on the babies, & I am guessing they would like some air, too.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: This is Day 4 for C & J. Hard to tell but they have grown since hatching on Sunday. I may need to get a “Baby On Board” sign to go with my Hummingbird Crossing ones.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Welcome, C & J! Both eggs are hatched this morning. Need to make sure all 4 feeders have fresh supplies for Mama Hummingbird & the others in the area.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: No pic as I did not want to be on the porch long (just grabbed the mail). One of the eggs is in the process of hatching now! Mama was on the edge of the nest & when I looked, there was a dark spot. We may see “C” soon!

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Mama has been sitting up in the nest, so I wondered if any hatching took place. It appears C & J are not ready to come out yet. Still have about 7-10 days.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Question, and please not the Google/search engine/AI answer (it was not helpful). We have a hummingbird that does figure 8 loops in the backyard. Anyone know why it may be doing that behavior? We wondered about territory & mating actions. Thank you!

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Well, the new signs match the two eggs now! Had two birds flying around me by one of the driveway feeders this evening. Time to refresh two of the four meal spots.

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025: Glad we did not disturb Mama Hummingbird yesterday as she sat most of the time on the nest. This morning is the first egg! Waiting for #2 within the next few days.

Now I see why 2 of the 4 feeders are low already! We have at least 3 birds in the area.

Met Mama Hummingbird today! It was just after my workout & she came within 6-8 inches from my face. I think she remembers me!

Today marks the last day I saw Mommie alive in person back in 2009. My sister & brother-in-law, who have both died in the past 20 months, were there. After our monthly Family Zoom today, I walked on our porch & got my first hummingbird sighting! #HummingbirdWatchSLC 2025 edition begins! /1

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 2024 Update: This year has come to a close. I brought in the last feeder (of 4) today as it has been two weeks without much activity for them & none last week. It was a successful watch with many more than our nest being around. Looking forward to 2025!

#HummingbirdWatchSLC 7-14-24:

Woke up to an empty nest! This is the 7th pair since it started in 2016 (2019 babies did not make it & 2020 is the only year with no eggs). I made a batch of new food yesterday in anticipation. Watch out world for Disco & Sisco!
