And that’s the final #IAMCR2024 session blogged, and a very good one it was too:
For those of you playing at home, that was another 15,000 words of liveblogging. Off to Social Media & Society, London, the week after next for the final leg of my triathlon.

🎙️ Right, just pre-recorded an interview with ABC Radio NSW Statewide that should be broadcast later today, and about to go live (I think) on Radio New Zealand about NZ’s foolhardy attempt to copy the NMBC. Then off to the #IAMCR2024 conference dinner.

General #IAMCR2024 observation: bringing your conference presentation as a PDF is nothing but trouble. Just swallow your pride and use a damn Powerpoint already.
(One person designed their slides in Google Slides and then printed the Slides _site_ as a PDF. Not recommended. 🤪)

An interesting early morning session on polarisation at #IAMCR2024. Liveblog here:
🆕 Because I just wasn't busy enough with #IAMCR2024, I've also just written a quick piece for @ConversationEDU on what might happen next with Meta and news in Australia, and why we should kill the failed News Media Bargaining Code as soon as we can:

A great #IAMCR2024 session on populism and propaganda, and a rather more mixed-quality session on journalism and conflict, and that’s the end of Day Two. Liveblog here: snurb.info/taxonomy/...

Hmm, a very mixed panel to start the day at #IAMCR2024 – sadly also with yet another paper that mistakes news curation for ‘echo chambers’. Liveblog here, for what it’s worth:

Title slide for “‘If you don’t know, vote no’: Symptoms of Destructive Polarisation in the 2023 Voice to Parliament Referendum in Australia”, presented by Axel Bruns at the IAMCR 2024 conference, Christchurch, 1 July 2024.
In this opening session at #IAMCR2024, I also presented my @qutdmrc team’s study of communicative practices on Facebook during the failed 2023 Voice to Parliament referendum for Indigenous recognition and participation in Australia. Slides are here:

OK,#IAMCR2024 liveblogging (and presenting) has started – and for my troubles they gave us the 08:30 slot on a Monday morning. 😵🥱
Here are my notes from the session: snurb.info/taxonomy/...

Programme listing for our paper on destructive polarisation in the Voice to Parliament debate.
I’m in Christchurch at #IAMCR2024 for the second leg of my conference triathlon – and just to add a further challenge, our paper on destructive polarisation in the Voice to Parliament campaign has been scheduled for 08:30 on the Monday morning. That’s 06:30 Brisbane time… 😩
