IC 1318 Butterfly Nebula - unprocessed image. The brilliant star Sadr, which the nebula seems to surround, is actually unrelated and only about 1,800 light-years away, while the nebula is approximately 4,000 light-years distant.

A stunning astrophotography image reveals the Butterfly Nebula (IC 1318) in the constellation Cygnus. The bright star Sadr (Gamma Cygni) dominates the upper left, illuminating the surrounding red-hued nebula and embedded open star cluster NGC 6910. Dark dust lanes contrast beautifully against the glowing hydrogen gas clouds, creating a breathtaking cosmic landscape 1500 light-years away.

I have created an #SHO (Hubble Palette) #astrophoto from the OSC data as in my previous post of 28-11-2024, #IC1318 The Butterfly Nebula, with the exception that the photo in my last post is cropped slightly more than this #SHO version. I also just left the stars in #narrowband.

A widefield view of glowing dust and gas with orange, brown, gold and cyan hues. There are lots of small filaments of dust speckled with thousands of stars.

This is an image I took a few years ago of the region around the star Sadr, including #IC1318 & #NGC6888 amongst others, 10h Ha, 10h [OIII] & 7h [SII]. Atik 383l & Samyang 135mm lens at f2.4. Lots going on in this image, a region full of dust and gas. #thephotohour #astrophotography #astrophoto
