HALLOWEEN (1978)

My selection for an actual John Carpenter soundtrack HAS to be Halloween, but in truth, I really love all his soundtracks. Still, this is in the top ten of all of us horror fanitics soudtrack lists!

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968)

Here's another one that NEVER makes anyone's list of great horror soundtracks. Likely because it doesn't actually have a composed score. Hands down the best the use ever of music in the public domain. So well done!

NOSFERATU: THE VAMPYRE [Nosferatu - Phantom der Nacht] (1979)

Like Howard Shore w/ Cronenberg, or even Goblin w/ Argento, Herzog had a working relationship w/ Popul Vuh before this film. But this sdtk is special! Utterly hypnotizing.

SCANNERS (1981)

Here it is, my other turn with Mr. Howard Shore! Shore first scored a Cronenberg film w/ Brood, but this is one of his truly classic early scores!

SUSPIRIA (1977)

This is not Goblin's only turn with soundtrack composistion (it's not even the only Argento), but it is probably their most famous, and my all time favorite.

RE-ANIMATOR (1985)

One can hardly keep from noticing the "homage" to Herrmann's Psycho sdtk. I have seen interviews w/ both Charles Band & his bro. Richard (the composer here) who mention their father's friendship w/ Herrmann, which explains why they weren't sued.

PSYCHO (1960)

Bernard Herrmann's score for this Hitchcock horror classic is almost a famous as the film. Parts of it have been almost endlessly quoted in other movies (esp. the next feature 👇🏼)

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)

Howard Shore!! I am big fan, and have been for a long time. I bought the sdtk to this right away. Playing this tonight, so I can watch a Cronenberg tomorrow w/ Shore's work. Wasn't gonna choose between them!
