To celebrate #IndependentBookshopWeek 2025, our Marketing Coordinator, @richardmskemp.bsky.social spent a day working at Bristol’s radical indie bookshop, @bookhaus.bsky.social, an experience that revealed the heart, care, and community behind the counter: buff.ly/bgQ3AxA
A small brown wicker basket is on a black worktop. In the basket, from left to right, are Naitonal Book Tokens vouchers that say Claim a free 5 National Book Token. In the middle are read with Pride booksmarks. At the right is a handwritten sign that says Free Stickers. On top of that are some stickers that say I love my local bookshop. There's a heart image in place of the word love.
The best place to find your next LGBTQIA+ favourite book is at your local, independent bookshop! Celebrate even more by picking up a High Five voucher for a free €5 National Book Token. Have a safe, happy, inclusive, empowered Pride! #nationalbooktokens

Sad to read that Jarrolds in Norwich
Is closing its book department, especially as it’s #independentbookshopweek
Commercially I get it, but it has just always had a book department and the business has such a proud history in print and books.

Basic income can no longer be dismissed as a utopian idea — it’s being tested worldwide. But can it truly transform economies and societies?

happy #independentbookshopweek to #poetrypharmacy where we spent a happy sunday morning launching #Afonydd in #BishopsCastle our only non-Wales event (so far). We had a lovely time in their new performance/workshop space The Lab, with lots of poets reading their own and other peoples poems.
It's #independentbookshopweek! I have a couple of t-shirts which come out at this time of year, and here is one :)
If you live near an independent bookshop, please pop in and give them some business - it's tough. Any purchase at all will be much appreciated!

An image of the book Awakened featuring a raven with a blue eye bearing the Tower of London on its back, and above it a ripped page and the text: ‘Awakened is a raw and unflinching dystopian horror story. Laura Elliott has crafted a deft fever dream and a deeply brilliant meditation on the very real terrors of capitalism, productivity, exploitation and healthcare. Fuelled by nightmares, this book is sure to leave you just as sleepless as me’ - Lucy Rose, author of The Lamb
An image of the book Awakened featuring a raven with a blue eye bearing the Tower of London on its back, and above it a ripped page and the text: ‘hugely imaginative. Haunting and compelling, Awakened is a genuinely plausible apocalyptic tale’ - Lucie McKnight hardy, author of Water Shall Refuse Them
An image of the book Awakened featuring a raven with a blue eye bearing the Tower of London on its back, and above it a ripped page and the text: ‘stunning, surreal, and genre-defying, this is a tale of both survival against the odds and of letting go - gripping, eerie, and beautifully told. A dystopian classic in the making’ - lyndsey croal, author of Limelight and other stories and Dark Crescent
An image of the book Awakened featuring a raven with a blue eye bearing the Tower of London on its back, and above it a ripped page and the text: ‘dreamlike from page one, Awakened is a speculative meditation on what it is to be human and what it means to be an animal. This is the quintessential soul of new horror, in which it is our bodies and our humanities that become the uncanny force to be reckoned with’ - Caroline Hardaker, author of Composite Creatures, and Mothtown
it’s #IndependentBookshopWeek and a week since Awakened was released into the world! it feels only right that I should encourage you to order Awakened in at your favourite local indie, and if you need convincing, here are some very nice things people have been saying about it 🥹
It's #IndependentBookshopWeek.
Is there any interest in a short piece about HWA-ers' favourite indies for Friday's members' newsletter?
If you think so, email me two sentences about what makes the shop you love special, plus a link to the website, and I'll include it.
Thanks!
