I'm sure this isn't a good way to do it, but most of my animations use 8 sprites at most so...
In figuring out pixels for a sprite sheet I just use hash marks or hand motions for how many frames that is then take the initial frame size times that motion..

I spent all day refactoring my inventory system and now it works slightly better and the code is so much simpler.
