Bringing Refugee Families Together: A practical and legal perspective from the Scottish Family Reunion Service On the International Day of the Family, the Scottish Family Reunion Service will host an event which will examine the practical, legal and policy landscape for refugees trying to reunite with families in light of the current refugee crisis in Europe.  The Scottish Family Reunion Service is a collaboration between British Red Cross and JustRight Scotland working together to provide an enhanced casework service for cases of family reunion where more time/increased accessibility is required and/or a specific urgency or legal complexity is in place.  This morning event will be presented by experts in family reunion and family integration from British Red Cross as well as from a refugee and family reunion lawyer from JRS. It will look at how families are being split up and the legal and practical steps available to assist reunification. Recent policy and legislative initiatives will also be covered.  Objectives By the end of this morning session, delegates will be able to: Understand the overarching legal frameworks which governs family reunification routes Identify common challenges in using current family reunification routes Understand the rationale for policy and legislative initiatives around family reunion  Ability to link into practical solutions/support available for refugees and their families.  Target Audience This session will be of interest to professionals and volunteers who work with refugees across Scotland seeking to be reunited with families. It may particularly be of interest to individuals who work in statutory services or third sector organisations who work with asylum seeking, refugee or migrant populations, such as in social work or advocacy services. Speakers Kirsty Thomson is a Director of JustRight Scotland. She is the supervising lawyer for the Scottish Family Reunion Service. She has worked in the area of family reunion for 11 years.  Yvonne Baillie is a Family Reunion Project Officer for the British Red Cross and the caseworker for the Scottish Family Reunion Service. She is a qualified immigration advisor and has worked in the area of family reunion for over 3 years. Vanessa Cowan is the British Red Cross Family Reunion Operations Manager. She has worked in the field of refugee family reunion for over 10 years and in the wider humanitarian and refugee sector for over 15 years.  Rachel Phoenix is a Dublin Family Reunion Officer for the British Red Cross in London. She works in the field of family reunification in the context of the Dublin III Regulation for the past 2 years. Her work includes supporting UK-based service users who are separated from family members living in various countries across Europe. Aelfred De Sigley is an Integration Service Manager at the British Red Cross. He manages the Reunited Family Integration Service for reunited refugee families in Glasgow, as part of the Scottish Refugee Integration Service. He has worked with reunited families for over 4 years.
