A newly returned Eastern Phoebe sits perched on a tiny plant stem a few inches above the ground. The heat from the decaying leaves on the ground allow for insects to be present in a tiny zone, whilst the air temperature above drops into the low 30s. Seconds after this picture was taken, it began to snow.
