True fame! Amol Rajan asking questions about the #isokon on the University Challenge Christmas special. We like to think the University Challenge question setters have visited us. If not, we’d love to see them when we reopen in March 2025.
We love to host educational visits. This group of MA Architectural Conservation students from the National University of Singapore 🇸🇬 arranged for a gallery tour and a talk by John Allan, the architect who directed the restoration of the #Isokon flats.

On this day, 17 December, in 1895, Wells Wintemute Coates, the architect of the #Isokon Flats, was born in Tokyo. In case you’re wondering about the wall display, he also designed boats and yachts.
Written on the underside of the #Isokon short chair (designed by #MarcelBreuer) on display at the gallery. As our director says, it’s always worth looking underneath your furniture.
Spot the #isokon long chair at the amazing #michaelcraigmartin show @royalacademy.bsky.social. See the real chair @isokongallery.bsky.social (Open on 14 December for our Christmas shop)
