Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-c.1656) was an Italian Baroque painter. She was influenced by Caravaggio and her paintings often featured women in mythical or biblical scenes. This self-portrait shows her in 17th century dress, one hand holding a palette, the other a paintbrush.
