A black bird with orange feathers under its tail and a crested head sitting on a balcony railing.
Sitting on the lanai (balcony-type) and we're getting visited by lots of birds. Finches and sparrows, mostly, but also this guy...I never knew its name growing up...a red-vented bulbul!

A grey desert chicken with fancy black plume coming from its head. It looks like a land angler fish only far more attractive and less horror story. It strides alongside a chain link fence. Its gait looks like a little wobbly top.
Back from the desert and didn’t leave empty birded. Though this trip had other priorities it was nice to get out and find some birds far outside the range I’m normally in. My Bird of the Day today was a highlight for me the Gambel’s Quail. How could you not love this ridiculous bird. #itsabird 🪶

While visiting Ronda( Spain) got 2 lifers , red-billed chough and Eurasian kestrel.

A smol yellow headed white and grey bodied bird with its little bird feet hanging onto opposite sections of a chain link fence.
Glad to be out of the desert. Good trip with about ten lifers including this Verdin. The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve was really nice and coulda spent longer there if it wasn’t a balmy 92. #itsabird 🪶

Male blue rock thrush perched on large tree branch contemplating
Good morning
I was having a hard time deciding for the BOTD which blue bird was the best one , I could not decide, so here what I think are my best catch .
One in Japan, the other is Tasmania( Australia)

A bright blue jay in a dormant scrubby tree. Its head facing right as it considers its next short flight.
My Bird of the Day today is Woodhouse’s Scrub Jay. A top contender for an additional arm tattoo if only I can get a clean portrait of one. I rather liked this photo of it further out in its normal habitat. 🪶 #itsabird

An orange breasted black and white winged and starkly black headed bird with a very red eye. It sits at the top of some scrubby conifer tree.
Today my Bird of the Day is the Spotted Towhee. This one found in Utah was very cooperative as we passed it on the trail. 🪶 #itsabird
A grumpy looking sparrow on a bit of leafless twig. It’s grumbling about eating a seed for some reason. Its void like eye is caused by being witness to terrible crimes. It keeps flying to new places but no matter where it goes the past follows it.
Today my Bird of the Day is the White-crowned Sparrow. This one was hanging out oceanside in California which isn’t such a bad place to be. 🪶 #itsabird
A house sparrow perched on weathered wood.
Today my Bird of the Day is celebrating new beginnings and the start of the process of finding a new place to call home. What better bird for that than the ubiquitous House Sparrow. 🪶 #itsabird
A black water chicken sat comfortably not on water but rather clovery green turf on the bank of a body of water
My Bird of the Day today is the Common Moorhen. This one was patiently waiting for tea time or something in the heart of London. 🪶 #itsabird
A black water chicken with bright red lore and beak with just a touch of yellow at the tip of its beak. It is mid stride coming off the bank of a muddy grassy island.
Today my Bird of the Day is the Common Gallinule. I much prefer the name for the nearly identical Moorhen but they didn’t consult me when they went to name it. 🪶 #itsabird
A common redpoll sitting on a little branch. The sun hitting its flank and its red crest catching the light nicely.
Today my Bird of the Day is the Redpoll. With March here I’ll certainly miss the trip to the Bog but with other things going on it just wasn’t in the cards this year. I think it was relatively quiet up there this year anyway so maybe for the best. 🪶 #itsabird
Smol white bellied bird with black wings from nearly directly underwater
Today my Bird of the Day is the Downy Woodpecker. This one basking in the spring sun high above my folks’ deck. 🪶 #itsabird

Bit blurry phone snap through the kitchen window but this is a Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) feeding on a Small Teasel (Dipsacus pilosus) seedhead. The seeds on the Wild Teasels must be finished as this less rewarding and requires better balance.

A yellow bellied brown winged white head with black face banded bird sits proudly on a large branch.
I get pretty excited for almost every bird I see and looking through my photos I generally remember each encounter. Some are a little more memorable like the Great Kiskadee on South Padre Island, TX that kept us company several times at a favorite birding spot. 🪶 #itsabird
A grey bird with white belly and brownish wings spread wide as it shakes off the weight of compulsory tasks.
I completed my taxes today and to celebrate this wildly inefficient and completely ridiculous system I’ve chosen the Yellow-billed Cuckoo as my Bird of the Day. 🪶 #itsabird
A bright red male northern cardinal in profile.
Went to the Latte Da production of The Glass Menagerie. It was beautifully done and I enjoyed it immensely. It got me thinking about what birds would look good in glass and I thought the Northern Cardinal would be an excellent choice. 🪶 #itsabird
A white-throated sparrow on the ground with its head slightly cocked.
After a successful juggling weekend with a lot of photography I’m happy to be back to looking at birds. I can kinda guess where they’re going and and how they behave. The same can’t always be said about jugglers. 🪶 #itsabird
An American robin just standing on some brown turf with a hint of fresh grass coming up in the foreground
Plenty of winter left here but the milder temperatures sure make it feel like spring isn’t that far off. 🪶 #itsabird
A cedar waxwing in Blaine, MN. It’s perched perfectly on a diagonal branch. Brown bird with yellow lower body and dark black mask.
Bird photography will always be my favorite but I’ve long wanted to do more wildlife, sports, and events. This weekend I get an opportunity to take some pics at a circus arts variety show and I’m super stoked to learn something new. 🪶 #itsabird
A Northern Hawk Owl sits atop a power pole. Brown bird with big helmet shaped head and football shaped body.
This SuperbOwl looks like a football. Happy Sunday y’all. Be safe. 🪶 #itsabird
A Canada Jay eyeing some peanut butter. A smol white bird with grey wings and long tail
Watched Heated Rivalry today so my Bird of the Day is the Canada Jay. Seemed about as fitting as any (except maybe a loon). 🪶 #itsabird
