This is the Great torii gate at Itsukushima-jinja, also known as Miyajima. One of the great views of japan. This photo was taken at roughly 9am local in Japan in 2011. The gate was at high tide when we arrived from the ferry so nobody was able to venture out at the time. The picture is of a grey sky and a grey ocean with a cityscape on the other shore. The bright vermillion gate in the center is very small from the distance the photo was taken. On the right of the photo are portions of a stone lantern on a dock which itself is part of the shrine.
This is the Great torii gate at Itsukushima-jinja, also known as Miyajima. One of the great views of japan. This photo was taken at roughly 3pm local in Japan in 2011. The gate was at low tide when we were ready to depart from the island so I was unable to venture out. The picture is of a blue sky and a deep blue ocean with a cityscape on the other shore. The low tide beach is visible closer to the shore the picture is taken from. It extends all the way out the the torii gate. The bright vermillion gate in the center is small from the distance the photo was taken. On the right of the photo are portions of a stone lantern on a dock which itself is part of the shrine.
These are pictures of the #ItsukushimaShrine torii that I took when I visited #Japan for the first time in 2011. The left was when I arrived and the right was when we had to leave.
