Investigadores cartografían las condiciones climáticas de exoplanetas rocosos del sistema Trappist-1 Un equipo internacional de científicos de las universidades de Ginebra (UNIGE) y Berna (UNIBE) ha conseguido por primera vez cartografiar el clima de dos exoplanetas rocosos con masas similares a la Tierra, situados en el sistema Trappist-1. Utilizando el Telescopio Espacial James Webb, los investigadores han medido las temperaturas de las caras diurnas de Trappist-1b y Trappist-1c, que oscilan entre 100 °C y 200 °C, mientras que las caras nocturnas presentan temperaturas por debajo de los -200 °C. Este contraste térmico extremo confirma la ausencia de atmósfera, ya que un planeta con atmósfera moderaría estas diferencias mediante transferencia de energía. Ambos planetas presentan rotación sincronizada con su traslación, similar a la Luna respecto a la Tierra, lo que genera un hemisferio siempre iluminado y otro permanentemente oscuro. La investigación destaca que, aunque estos planetas podrían haber tenido atmósfera en su formación, la intensa actividad energética de su estrella enana roja podría haberla eliminado. Los científicos continúan ahora centrados en Trappist-1e, ubicado en la zona habitable, donde podría existir agua líquida. Este hallazgo representa un avance significativo en la comprensión de exoplanetas rocosos y su potencial para albergar condiciones similares a las de la Tierra, ampliando el conocimiento sobre los entornos planetarios más allá de nuestro sistema solar.
