Jennifer via her instagram 🤍 Jennifer via her instagram 🤍 One year ago, I awoke from a dream that felt so real. It turned out to be a nightmare I couldn’t believe was actually happening. As we pulled out of our driveway, our house was bookended in smoke. I felt an eery goodbye inside that I couldn’t share with anyone. But, months later, I gave gratitude to that feeling. My dream. That signal inside helped me pack the things we would cling to and keep us going, get our animals, stay somewhat calm for our babies, and get us to a safe place. If I’m honest, I didn’t feel safe after that for a very long time. I didn’t trust in the magic I had always believed in. I didn’t know how to help my kids, my husband, or myself to trust that things would be okay again anytime soon. I had dreams every night that I was in a ship with my family and we were surrounded by lighthouses. I kept asking out loud, “what do we do next?” I never got an answer. At least not in my sleep. I learned what I was really made of. How brave and incredible our kids are. What a true team my husband and I have become in these 13 years. Everyday the things we lost and were taken from us got replaced. With friendships, kind strangers, learning to laugh again, snuggles, allowing ourselves to cry, and embracing all the change. We had no choice. We watched innocence in our children be taken too early. Honestly we all lost a part of us that day. But here we are. A year later. Feels like a million moments have happened in this one short span of time. And so many of them real, profound, and healing. I realize the lighthouses in my dream were little bits of hope, showing me that it would be okay and light in the darkness was possible again. ❤️‍🩹
