#JTE (#Java Template Engine) is a good replacement, except that you have to build your own "tag library". Using it on a project right now. I need to open-source the #Spring specific JTE utilities eventually.

By the way - what are you using for (complex) link generation in JTE? Use ServletUriComponentsBuilder directly in the templates/controller? A little odd that #JTE has neither helpers nor documentation for that. One area where #Thymeleaf definitely feels more mature.
