“The federal government sent 3,000+ armed agents to Minneapolis as part of Operation Metro Surge. On a normal day there are about 150 in the whole state. Agents were stopping people on the street, asking "Are you Somali?" On January 7th, an ICE officer shot and killed a mother of three, a U.S. citizen. Weeks later, a second resident was killed. 76,000 people needed emergency relief. Businesses lost half their revenue or more. Families were afraid to leave their homes. Neighbors started delivering groceries to each other. People stood guard outside daycares. That’s what it was like in my city. I’m Mayor Jacob Frey and I did what I was elected to do. I spoke up.
