If #JaneAustenWreckedMyLife falters, the love interest, though fitting, is perhaps too hurried a conclusion for such a tangled soul, yet as Agathe stands before the page she once feared, she becomes her own living fragment of that enduring magic of Austen, and that is everything.
The cinematography of #JaneAustenWreckedMyLife knows how to hold the ethereal face of Camille Rutherford in the light, how to sit with someone where meaning is not always in dialogue. That lens of Pierre Mazoyer is the brush of a painter, a visual wonder of longing made external.
#JaneAustenWreckedMyLife closes with a manuscript finished, a tearful handshake with Oliver at the ferry, a book accepted, a public poetry reading where Agathe sees him in the crowd, and a final kiss that transcends fireworks into the belief that literature and love still matter.
There is no sudden innovation in the denouement of #JaneAustenWreckedMyLife, her creative block remains, she returns to her family holiday home, and only as she faces her own ruins, sitting at her desk, the hand of her late father gently rests on her shoulder, she starts writing.
There are moments where Agathe cannot write, staring at the page with tears in her eyes, silence deafening as it becomes confession, I have felt that, the weight of what you are trying to say catching in your chest. #JaneAustenWreckedMyLife allows that space for doubt to breathe.
Stories have forever loved a woman in love... but not always a woman thinking about love like this. There are men, familiar, unexpected, but not the point. #JaneAustenWreckedMyLife gives them space without letting them crowd her... this is her story, and for once, that is enough.
Like Darcy, he contests her assumptions, and the way he looks at her... I long for more time with them. #JaneAustenWreckedMyLife lingers in her indecision, love can be more than a choice of two men, but a way of returning to yourself. Agathe finds herself because Oliver sees her.
