"It had nothing to do with 'Adolescent Sex'. It was made for the Rainbow Theatre show in 1979 during an instrumental passage in one of the songs, possibly 'Suburban Berlin'. The idea was to make the show 'special' with our limited budget".

Contents page for the 1980 & 1982 exhibitions of Japan bassist Mick Karn's sculptures, at Hamiltons Gallery, Mayfair, London. The foreword by Angie Bowie:
"An artist is the catalyst of the stream of consciousness from which flows all design and communication.

MICK KARN is a superlative example of this artistry. His talents are divided between music, live performance and sculptured design. Seldom do artists achieve the balance of time allowed them to crystalize their technique and polish each facet of their artistic endeavour.

The sculptor of this Exhibition was born in Cyprus and matured in England. Thus, in his art, MICK KARN expresses the finest and most powerful of these two influences.

For Cyprus, Aphrodite's enchanted island, has given him a rich understanding of the endless, white light reflecting sea and sky in perfect planet colours. It is a natural consequence that the emphasis of line is guided by his interest in Japan and the Orient. He has attained a rigid discipline enhanced with attention to materials and detail. His zest resulted in his work being exhibited here in London last year and in three Japanese cities, including Tokyo, to capacity crowds.

With this Exhibition, a three-dimensional gap has been filled with all the dynamism and potential of a 20th Century Renaissance Man. I hope his future output and energy will contribute heavily to design and communication. The abbreviation of superfluity is a quality of maturity rarely found in any artist barely touching 24 years of age.

In the hope that everyone truly enjoys this Exhibition; It is so in touch and so in keeping with all ages, inclinations and philosophies.

My kindest regards,

Angela Bowie"

“In the band we’ve always worn masks as protection and it’s people like me, the ones who look the oddest, who have the most to hide. But over the years we’ve tended to wear less and less colour in our hair and make-up as we’ve become a little more confident”.
