We love the depachika's. Big warehouses like Isetan, Takashimaya and Daimaru have wonderfull foodfloors. They are really AMAZING. At the end of the day there might be some discounts as well. Note Daimaru Tokyo station has 2 floors. Lower is better.
Several great video's on youtube.

A foodtip for deers in Nara. Bring a strong plastic bag, so when you buy crackers you can keep some in your bag. We liked it more to feed the deer away from the main site at more quiet and hidden places. Here are for exam. mothers with baby deer, who can't go to the crowded places.

Check ahead on a restaurant's Google Maps page for photos of an English menu, a lot of chains will have them, but you might be surprised at the amount of local spots will have an English menu! (1/2)
#Japanuary, Day 4: Food tips
#1 If you can find a dept store, there is probably a grocery store in the basement. Buy your can of coffee & something for breakfast there.
#2 If you find something cool like this egg vending machine, stop and inspect it.

A oblong white rice cakes with miso paste spread over it, on a wide stick in front of a window where the outside is heavy snow.
A small pan on the floor with rice cakes being cooked, a small bowl of misoc past and a metal bowl with wooden sticks. Surrounded by several lower body shots of those preparing them.
Following on from yesterday, not quite a food tip, but loved these rice cakes with miso paste, have wanted to find something similar ever since. This is from a visit to a rural community in Toge. (From a college trip, my tutor had been doing an art project in the village). #Japanuary25d4 #Japanuary
Foodtip in Japan- Explore those hidden gems that are in little alleys, especially if the locals seem to really like the place. Nothing quite like having a drink with other people and conversing in broken japanese and english, laughing the whole time.

Chameleon at Coffee Chi-zu
Food recommendation - Don't be afraid to try a little mom and pop. Who knows, you may be dining with a chameleon. This was shot at Coffee Chi-zu not far off of Yanaka Ginza. I had a great BLT there.

Japan food tip! Window fake foods are great guides to see if a place entices your taste buds. This place had fantastic tonkatsu ramen, fried rice, gyoza. Food looks incredibly similar to the plastic ones! Don't be afraid to try places randomly! #Japanuary25d4 #Japanuary25 #Japanuary #foodinjapan

Food Tips
Explore tiny backstreets away from the main tourist areas, you'll find amazing places to eat. I recommend a little place called Ramen Tendo in Nipponbashi, Osaka. Tiny place, best ramen we ever had.
#Japanuary25D4 Food tips. Even cheap food is good! The standard of food in Japan is excellent - there've honestly been only a handful of places that I've been disappointed by in all the times I've been to Japan. Try as much as you can! (1/2)
Day 4: food tips
Don't limit yourself to what you've heard on social media. There's so much good food, and pretty much anything you pick will be enjoyable so don't be afraid to try something spontaneously. Pics are a couple of our on the fly choices
