Had to add one more... check out the cheap Kintetsu passes for Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Nagoya. Not only standard trains, but also the most wonderfull luxurious trains for very little extra. Especially convenient voor Osaka Namba station.

Buy separate base ticket (cheaper each mile and extra discount for return) + separate shinkansen upgrade. Cheeper, flex. and option greencar. At the ticketm. just buy upgr. without base once you have base t. You can do this in adv. and also reserve your seat. Ours had 12 days valid.
Nagoya is known for its shachihoko.
Shachihoko/shachi are mythical sea creatures that have the head of a dragon/tiger/lion and the body of a carp. Did you know that orca are called "shachi" too?

I ❤️ traveling by train in #Japan. Mostly because driving in Japan (which I've done exactly 2 times) is 😱. If you are riding the shinkansen, pick up a specialty bento at the station before you get on the train. I bought this one in Nagoya.

I used Google maps for train schedules and to know where to go for platforms. I did have a few hiccups where I got on a limited express train without realizing I had to purchase another ticket. I also sat down in a green car by mistake and was asked to relocate.

Use an app like Navitime to help with figuring out what route is the best for your needs and budget. And of course, if you're taking the shinkansen don't forget to get an ekiben or some snacks to enjoy on the journey!

If you’re traveling between Osaka and Fukuoka, you can ride a Hello Kitty themed bullet train! They even have a souvenir shop in the first car. Timetable below:
Japan train tips! Grab a bento box or food from a convenience store if travelling longer distances on the shinkansen. My go-to favs are pork cutlet sandwiches, egg mayo sandwiches or melon pan! Also, arrive with time to spare and exit the train quick, leave it tidy! #Japanuary25d15 #Japanuary25
Suitcase for the 2022 is on the eft and the Suitcase for 2024 is on the right. Next time, I will take both.
My advice for trains is don't take anything larger than carry on. Though I wished that I had taken the bigger one for souvenirs and extra clothes and used Yamato to deliver it to hotels. #Japanuary25d11

Train tips
Invest in a Pasmo or Suica card. Seriously makes using the trains so easy. Also don't be afraid to ask train station staff for help, they usually go out of their way.
Train/travel tips - *When you hear announcement for ur station, be ready to disembark (cleanup, grab belongings, wait by exit) or you will miss your stop.
