The Elephant Collection is not just a remastered flash game compilation. It's a deeply personal journal of one John Cooney (jmtb02), a game dev that help change everything for gaming in the late 2000s/early 2010s and no one but me recognizes it. If you ever played a flash game post-2008, you've played something either by this man or influenced by him. And if you haven't, then this collection is the perfect sampler of what web games of the era were like. I adored this guy's games back in the day, but didn't know who he was. And while the game isn't some sob story or anything, the game is such a humble sharing of the joys of creating and preserving art that I just about cried. But if that sentimental crap isn't your thing, then the games are charming as hell and addictive as heaven. Everything has been replicated to the best of our current abilities and polished up, so it's all just darn simple fun that never fails to put a smile on my face. The Elephant Collection not only represents my history on websites like Newgrounds, Playcrafter, and Kongregate, but it also represents my reverence for overlooked art and preservation of it.

The Elephant Collection is one of my favorite games ever. Well it's 13 flash games, but packaged with seriously heartwarming looks at creation & preservation

Project Zomboid is the game teenagers think they'll make when they start fantasizing about game design, and I mean that in the best way possible. "I'm gonna make a super realistic, super gritty survival game where you can do *anything*--no, like *anything*! And it's gonna be so realistic and tough and brutal and it's gonna be the best game ever"... But then it was. It *was* a game where you can do anything. It *was* a game that simulates everything. No, seriously, if you haven't played it, go ahead and think of something. It simulates it. And somehow you don't need a fucking degree to play it? I mean, yes, it has a learning curve, but stick with it and I promise it becomes a true gem. Now... I'm not one to rush indie devs, but I REALLY need them to hurry and polish the multiplayer on the unstable branch 42. I have a hot girl that I want to play this with, and I'd appreciate it if the devs could do me a solid and get on that. Thanks.

Prey (2017) is such an interesting game. I adore it. Is it perfect? Nah. But I love immersive sims like Deus Ex and Dishonored, and I love Metroid, and I love NASA-punk, and I love games that try to be clever. So I love Prey. When I decided to (not) do something for moral reasons, at a great cost through the whole game that made my life harder, and the game acknowledged it and applauded it at the end, I was soooo validated that I vowed never to forget this game lmao. This is the only game in Jaski-cember that isn't published by an indie dev, so that should be a sign of how highly I value this game. I don't stick with AAA or even AA games very often! So if this one made it through, you know it's legit. A game that seems to respect its audience, I respect the hell out of Prey right back.

Prey (2017) surprised me and really hit all the right buttons, with an aesthetic that is perfect and immersive-sim goodness that I'd been craving lol

Night in the Woods is an adventure game that may have hit a slightly younger Jaski at exactly the right time in exactly the right way to make it his favorite game of all time. On my accounts not connected with the JaskiTohura brand, I use the main character Mae Borowski as a pfp. I suffer from dissociation, much like Mae, and when I played this on release I had never seen it portrayed in a way that made me feel so seen. A game about directionlessness, finding no meaning, making your own meaning, and having to sit with that feeling while talking and hanging out with incredibly charming characters, NitW is a masterpiece. The Whole World was a cold and unmoving place. Things couldn't happen. Places weren't. People didn't. Each aspect became a person: the gregarious rabbit known as the Wanderheart, the sorceress dragon known as the Wandersoul, and the unfettered sabertooth known as the Wanderlust.
